Advice: Soak it all in and enjoy it. The real world isn’t nearly as much fun.
Bathroom Break Song: I usually did the Import show. Most of the songs I played were over 10 minutes. They were all bathroom break songs. 🙂
Memorable Interview: Probably Tim Curry. He was a real pro and recognized that I wasn’t and was still very kind and helpful during the interview, and live he nailed a promo talking over one of his songs.
Funny Story: At a radio convention, a couple of us had Greg Kihn and Dyan Diamond locked in a hotel room bathroom doing IDs. Greg’s manager was banging on the door trying to get him out. I think Greg enjoyed being there because a) we were fun and b) my friend was probably the only person in the room shorter than him. And we got some great IDs out of it.
Extra Credit: For a college station in the 70’s, KCR had quite an influence on the music/radio scene. Local stations hired our DJs and would check out our playlists, looking for new music (back before everything went national). The San Diego Chicken was discovered at our station. We held multiple radio station conventions and had relationships with most of the record companies. In recent years the station has nationally won the best internet college station multiple times. Yes, I’m proud of what we were and still are.
